A fortified island in the Anduin north of Osgiliath, shaped like a great ship with its prow pointing upstream. Gondor garrisoned it to guard the northern approaches to Minas Tirith. During the War of the Ring, Sauron's forces captured the island, threatening to cut off any reinforcements from Rohan.
