Faramir's Last StandThird Age 3019
Denethor sends Faramir on a near-suicidal mission to retake and hold the ruined city of Osgiliath against Sauron's advancing host. Faramir leads the defence knowing it is hopeless, then covers the retreat of his men across the Pelennor while Nazgûl wheel overhead. Gandalf rides out to shield the retreat with light. Faramir is struck by a Morgul dart and brought back to Minas Tirith gravely wounded, driving Denethor to despair.

The Ruined CapitalThird Age 3019
The ancient capital of Gondor, once spanning both banks of the Anduin, now a shattered ruin contested by Gondor and Mordor. Boromir led the defence that held the western bank, and it was a dream of Osgiliath's fall that prompted his journey to Rivendell. During the War of the Ring, Faramir's forces fight a desperate rearguard action as Sauron's armies pour across the river toward Minas Tirith.
