The Cross-roads
The Fallen King
At the junction where the road from Osgiliath meets the southward road to Minas Morgul, Frodo finds the old statue of a seated king. Its head has been struck off and replaced with a crude stone carved with a leering face, but the severed head lies nearby in the grass, crowned by trailing plants with white and gold flowers. A fleeting beam of sunlight illuminates the crowned head — a quiet sign that Sauron cannot conquer all.
