Long Lake
The Death of Smaug
Enraged by Bilbo's theft, Smaug descends on Lake-town in a storm of fire, setting the town ablaze. As the dragon wheels for another pass, Bard the Bowman, guided by the thrush's message about the bare patch in Smaug's jewelled armour, looses the Black Arrow and strikes true. Smaug crashes down full upon the town, his last throes splintering it to sparks. The lake roars in over the ruins, swallowing the dragon forever.
