Sarn Ford
The Breach of the Shire
The main southern ford across the Brandywine River, Sarn Ford was secretly guarded by Aragorn's Rangers to protect the Shire — a service the hobbits never knew about. In September TA 3018, the Nazgûl forced the crossing, scattering the Dúnedain and entering the Shire to hunt for 'Baggins.' This breach of the Shire's invisible defences set the entire chase in motion.
