The Withered Heath lay between the arms of the Grey Mountains in the far north, and was the breeding ground of the great dragons. It was from here that Smaug descended upon Erebor in TA 2770, driving the Dwarves into exile. Other dragons from the Heath had previously attacked the Grey Mountains, slaying King Dáin I.
