Andrast, also called Ras Morthil (Dark Cape), is the long uninhabited promontory jutting westward into the sea south of the Gap of Rohan, forming the northern arm of the Bay of Belfalas. The Drúedain (Woses) once lived in its forests, but they were hunted and persecuted by the Númenóreans and eventually driven out or into hiding. The cape was left wild and shunned — Gondor's coastal defences and beacons never extended to it, and mariners avoided its shores.
