Doors of Durin
Speak Friend and Enter
At the West-gate of Moria, the Fellowship finds the ancient Doors of Durin sealed shut. An inscription reads 'Speak, friend, and enter.' Gandalf tries spell after spell before realising it is a simple riddle — the Elvish word for friend, mellon, opens the doors. As they enter, the Watcher in the Water attacks from the dark lake, seizing Frodo. The others rescue him, but the creature pulls the doors shut and collapses the entrance, trapping the Fellowship inside.
