In TA 2510, a great host of Easterlings invaded Gondor and pushed its armies back to the Field of Celebrant. In Gondor's darkest hour, Eorl the Young rode south from the far north with his entire people, the Éothéod, and routed the invaders. In gratitude, Steward Cirion granted Eorl the province of Calenardhon, which became Rohan.
