The Gate is ClosedThird Age 3019

Gollum leads Frodo and Sam to the Morannon, the Black Gate of Mordor. They find it impassable — two great watchtowers, an iron gate, and an army of orcs and men. As they watch, a column of Easterlings marches in. Gollum urges them not to enter by this road and offers to show them a secret way: the pass of Cirith Ungol, watched over by ‘Her’ — whom he does not name.
