After the fall of Fornost, King Arvedui fled north to the Ice Bay of Forochel, where the Lossoth (Snowmen) sheltered him. Círdan sent a ship to rescue him, but it was crushed in the ice and Arvedui drowned. With him were lost two of the seven Palantíri, sinking beneath the frozen waters forever.
