Umbar
Haven of the Corsairs
Umbar was a great natural harbour far to the south, first established as a fortress by the Númenóreans in the Second Age. After the Downfall, the Black Númenóreans held it as a base of power hostile to Gondor. It became the stronghold of the Corsairs, who raided Gondor's coasts for centuries. Their fleet sailed north during the War of the Ring, only to be captured by Aragorn at Pelargir.
